With a top temperature of minus 9 degrees Celsius that old adage “be careful what you wish for” was very true for K and C in search of their white Christmas! Thank goodness we stocked up on some thermal gear before we came because even those mornings doing stock counts in the Maccas freezer do not prepare you for this level cold. (Note from C. I don't think K spent much time in the freezer at McDonald's. I sure did and it hasn't helped condition either of us at all.)
We stepped out of the airport into a winter wonderland of glistening white. Soft flakes of snow were gently falling, and it was truly magical. It took a lot to not break out into “it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas”. OK so I was humming it in my head. Although literally freezing cold we couldn’t resist a late-night stroll through the park and enjoy such a novel experience.
Helsinki is a Christmas town, they appear to have more lights decorating the city than London and Berlin (even accounting for their Christmas markets).
One slightly off brand Christmas tradition Helsinki has though is what is on the menu…..reindeer, yes poor old Rudolph can be served roasted, stewed even tartare if you like. So far we have not succumbed but never say never.

Well its Christmas eve, the snow is still coming down outside so we wish you all Hyvää Joulua! from Helsinki
